I know that switching music streaming platforms is hard. You don’t have to tell me twice! It’s difficult to leave all of your playlists and history to a completely new platform.
But truly, Amazon Music is on a whole other level. Especially as both a music lover and a college student, trust me when I say Amazon Music will take care of you just fine.
As a huge music nerd, I really appreciate the original music/content that the platform advocates for. Not only do artists work so hard to provide exclusive original songs on top of their catalog, there are so many other ways for artists to interact with fans. To just name a few, artists can produce never-before-seen photos/visuals, custom messages that play before a song (intros and Spotlights), and DJ-mode (where artists can give commentary and background on their music). I love the storytelling aspect!
What’s really important to me is how Amazon selects a breakthrough artist each year and provide immense marketing and creative support. Knowing that I am supporting a company that uses resources to support an up-and-coming act is fantastic.
But on top of that, Amazon Music is cost-friendly. Prime members have access to Amazon Music completely free, and Amazon Music Unlimited is $8.99/month. There’s even an annual subscription for even more discounts ($89/year). For non-Prime customers, it is $9.99/month.
But even more, students can qualify for just $0.99/month for 4 years! That beats Spotify’s $4.99/month by a long shot.
There’s even something for music lovers who seek CD quality music on-the-go. Amazon works to create more spatial audio content mastered in Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio remixes. In other words, better quality for less.
Existing Amazon users can really benefit from the platform. Amazon Echo provides a seamless integrations and voice commands, Prime Video and Twitch allows artists to explore visual media, and X-Ray offers lyrics and trivia for songs. One of the biggest integrations is linking Amazon links for merchandise and artist products. This makes my life so much easier; everything in one umbrella to save time.
To me, Amazon Music was a smart switch. Signing up, especially as an existing Prime Member, was extremely streamlined. To my fellow college students, switch over for exclusive content, a direct line to a few of your favorite artists, and higher streaming quality!
